Walk Tides ("the app", "we", "us") is a tide-times app for coastal spots around the UK and Ireland. We designed it to do its job without collecting personal information about you. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with data.
Walk Tides does not request location permission and never reads your device location. You choose a beach or port by name, and that choice is what the app shows you.
Your home station, your notification and Lock Screen preferences, and a copy of recent tide predictions are stored on your device so the app, its widgets and the Apple Watch app work quickly and offline. If you use the Apple Watch app, your home station is passed between your own iPhone and Watch. None of this is sent to us.
If you turn on daily alerts, they are scheduled on your device by iOS. Nothing about them is sent to us, and you can turn them off at any time in the app's Settings.
This feature is off unless you switch on "Track Next Tide". While it is on, the app sends our server two things so the countdown can move on to the next tide while your phone is locked: a push token that Apple issues for that one countdown, and the ID of your home station. The token identifies the countdown, not you: it is not linked to your name, Apple ID, email or location, and we do not use it for anything else. It is deleted from our server when the countdown ends, when you turn the feature off, or when Apple reports it as expired, which happens within hours.
Tide predictions are requested through our own server proxy, which forwards requests to the UK Hydrographic Office (ADMIRALTY) Tidal API and caches results to improve speed and reliability. Like any internet service, our proxy may transiently process standard technical information (such as an IP address and request timestamps) for security, rate-limiting, and caching. This information is not used to identify you and is not retained to build a profile.
Walk Tides is a one-time paid app. All payments are handled by Apple through the App Store. We never see or receive your payment details.
The app does not include third-party analytics or advertising SDKs, and does not track you across other apps or websites.
Walk Tides is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any information from children.
If this policy changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
